Etymology: Cyphocharax: Greek, kyphos = curved, humpback + Greek, charax = a marine fish without identification (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: M Gilbert was a French naval surgeon who died of yellow fever in the Antilles. Nothing more is known, not even if the M stands for ‘Monsieur’ or for a first name. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
