Espinas dorsales (total) : 4 - 7; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 13 - 17; Espinas anales: 1; Radios blandos anales: 21 - 27. Body strongly compressed and deepest at pectorals. Scales on body small, cycloid; thorax and belly naked. Pectoral fin in a high position, with a round posterior margin. Upper jaw not protractile. A broad silvery band (blackish after preservation) running from pectoral base to caudal fin base. Attains 5 cm SL.
Found near shore and in tide pools.
