Quote Ngatunga and Snoeks (Ref. 55952): "Prior to this study both species (Lethrinops oculatus and L. marginatus) were only known from their types, one holotype and two syntypes respectively. Now that more specimens have become available, it has become clear that the characteristics of the sole specimen of L. oculatus falls within the total variability of L. marginatus."
