Very long upper jaw, very long pectoral fin, and relatively short lower jaw. Head longer than lower jaw; pectoral fin about as long as head. Sixth anal ray of males widened but not elongated beyond the rest of anal fin rays. None of the male dorsal rays elongated beyond the rest of the dorsal fin.
Inhabits estuaries, lowland rivers and tributaries. A shoal-forming species which swims near the surface. Feeds on insects (Ref. 44894).
