Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12 - 18; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 16 - 27. Body moderately elongate, belly keeled, with 7 to 9 + 4 to 6 scutes. Snout blunt, pre-maxillae small and toothed, prominent teeth a symphysis and along sides of lower jaw; second supra-maxilla paddle-shaped, about half length of maxilla. Pectoral axillary scale minute or absent. Last two anal fin rays forming a separate finlet.
Inhabits rivers and canals including peat tributaries, feeding mainly on zooplankton and insect (Ref. 57235).
