Spine dorsali (totale) : 11; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 9; Spine anali: 3; Raggi anali molli: 9. Variable in color from pinkish to bright red or purple and dorsal fin often bright yellow in adults (Ref. 48636).

Occurs in outer reefs over bottom of coral rubble or heads of small finely branched coral. Feeds on zooplankton. Usually occurs in moderately large groups in depths of about 20-25 m (Ref. 48636).
