Asia and Oceania: Indonesia, Taiwan, Palau, New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. Also reported from the Philippines (Ref. 7223). Reports from Australia requires verification by additional collections.

Mostly found in streams or rivers, some as far as 30 km upstream from the mouth. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
