Reports from the Ituri drainage (middle Congo River basin) (Ref. 82705) based on misidentified E. trinotatus (Ref. 106290).

Last unbranched ray of dorsal fin thorny with posterior serration; anterior barbels well developed, mostly reaching over anterior side of operculum (Ref. 27628). Dorsal side of body brown-green colored, ventral side silver; unpaired fins are brown-yellow, paired fins uncolored; sometimes a darker lateral line can be seen on adults, replaced by spots in young (Ref. 27628).
Maximum TL was recorded at 11.5 cm (Ref. 2801).
