Etymology: Nannocharax: Latin, nannus = small + Greek, charax = a marine fish without identification (Ref. 45335).

Africa: only known from the two syntypes from the Cubango (Okavango basin) and Kunene (Ref. 82823); the Okavango syntype possibly represents another species (Ref. 11970). Report of the species in the Zambezi (Ref. 7094) is erroneous.
