Alestidae (African tetras)
Etymology: Brachypetersius: Greek, brachys = short + Peters, 1877, naturalist, expeditionary in Asia.
Eponymy: Charles Meigs Biddle Cadwalader (1885–1959) was an American philanthropist who was Director of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia (1937–1951). The mineral Cadwaladerite is named after him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Africa: upper Lulua (Kasai drainage, middle Congo River basin), upper Lomami (middle Congo River basin) and right bank tributaries of the Lualaba River (upper Congo River basin), including the Elila and Luama (Ref. 42032), in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Also reported from Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 42032) but this is unconfirmed in other sources (e.g. Ref. 598, 6770).
