Etymology: Campylomormyrus: Greek, kampylos = bent + Greek, mormyros = a fish (Sparus sp) (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: The etymology is not explained, but this probably refers to the Tschokwe (also spelled Chokwe) peoples of central Africa who inhabit the area where the species occurs. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
