Écologie
; eau douce; saumâtre benthopélagique. Temperate; 10°C - 30°C (Ref. 2060); 37°S - 38°S
Oceania: coastal drainages of southwestern Victoria from Frankston (Melbourne) to the south Australian border. Has recently sampled in Bool Lagoon drainage system, eastern South Australia and western Victoria.
Length at first maturity / Taille / Poids / Âge
Maturity: Lm 4.0  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 7.5 cm TL mâle / non sexé; (Ref. 5259); common length : 5.0 cm TL mâle / non sexé; (Ref. 5259)
Inhabits streams and small lakes; prefers flowing water with abundant cover in the form of aquatic vegetation (Ref. 44894). Occurs in creeks and lakes, usually among aquatic weeds. Feeds on insects, insect larvae and planktonic crustaceans (Ref. 5259, 44894). Swims in small shoals, sometimes with N. australis. Breeding season is in spring (September and October). Slight morphological differences exist between populations from the extreme western and eastern parts of the range that could warrant their placement into separate subspecies (Ref. 44894).
