Inhabits streams and lakes, often forming large schools at the surface. Temperatures in their environments range from 20 to 29 °C and pH from 5.3 to 8.5 and the water varies from clear to turbid (Ref. 7298).
Females attach their eggs to aquatic vegetation and other submerged materials, e.g. Melaleuca sp. roots found in banks and margins of rivers (Ref. 35356). Distinct pairing (Ref. 205).
