Etymology: Farlowella: Because of W. G. Farlow, from Harvard University (Ref. 45335); mitoupibo: 'mitoupibo', i.e., derived from the noun ‘mito-upibo’, the name applied by the Guahibo people to fishes of the genus <>Farlowella. Noun in apposition (Ref. 128477).

It has a disjunct midabdominal plate series, at the front part of the body it has four lateral plate series, a long snout and hexagonal anterior median lateral plates.
Found in a clear water stream with slow to moderate current over a sandy substrate with round stones, gravel and leaf litter. The largest specimen was a male measuring 20.96 cm in standard length (Ref. 128477).
