Dorsal soft rays (total): 34; Anal soft rays: 22. This species is distinguished by the following characters: anterior profile of head strongly sloped at an angle of approximately 65° in midline of body; dorsal fin origin beyond vertical through posterior margin of orbit; distance from origin of upper jaw to origin of dorsal fin (along forehead slope contour) is greater than head length; eye diameter greater than caudal peduncle depth; gill rakers are flattened and comparatively long (1.3 times in length of gill filaments), the distance between them smaller than 1/2 of their length; upper part of gill raker with up to 5 denticles, 20 gill rakers on first branchial arch; head length exceeds ventroanal distance; D 34; A 22; vomer with 9 teeth; both jaws with one row of teeth; lateral line without strongly enlarged and modified scales (Ref. 95096).
