Occurs on exposed wave-washed beaches where the substrate is of sand, rock, or shingle. A few records were from more sheltered areas (Ref. 4983). Most of the specimens which were examined contained either macerated plant tissue or a mixture of plant tissue and insect fragments (Ephemeroptera larvae) (Ref. 558).
