Etymology: Fundulus: Latin, fundus = bottom; a peculiar name for a topminnow, coined for a bottom species of Atlantic coast being "the abode of the fundulus mudfish" (Ref. 45335);  grandis: From the Latin words fundus=bottom, and grandis=big, large; full grown (Ref. 79012).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Prefers grassy bays, canals and nearby fresh water, avoiding tidal flats. Also found in marginal fresh waters. 18 cm max TL (Ref. 7251). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139). Feeds on small crustaceans and other invertebrates (Ref. 26938).
