Etymology: Bodianus: Bodianus after Bodiano or Pudiano, from the Portuguese pudor, meaning modesty (Jordan & Evermann, 1896).; macrognathos: Name from the Greek makros for long, and feminine noun gnathos meaning jaw, referring to the unusually massive lower jaw which is considered a diagnostic feature of the species by the author (Ref. 75973).
