Etymology: Rhinotocinclus: Greek, 'Pnivqc' (Rhinos) = beak, snout + Greek, 'Otocinclus' = a genus of Hypoptopomatinae; in reference to the conspicuous and elegant snout of most of its species (Ref. 128924); loxochelis: 'loxochelis', i.e., 'loxos'(Greek), i.e., slanting crosswise; and 'kelis'(Greek), i.e., stain,spot; referring to the broken and oblique dark bars of the species. A noun in apposition (Ref. 128924).
