Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Favors the shallow mud bottom waters near fringing vegetation such as papyrus and Vossia (Ref. 9606). Feeds on aquatic insects, mainly chironomid larvae (Ref. 12526), on Caridina and caenid larvae (Ref. 9606), but also on algae and plankton (Ref. 36900). A male to female ratio of 1:10.5 has been noted for this species; it breeds continuously throughout the year with obvious peaks during the rains (Ref. 10608). Anadromous (Ref. 10608). Migrates up the rivers to spawn in temporary pools and streams (Ref. 4903, 10608). Oviparous (Ref. 205).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01318 (0.00612 - 0.02839), b=2.85 (2.67 - 3.03), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.4   ±0.50 se; based on food items.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Fec = 206).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
