Etymology: Apristurus: a-, Latin privative, i.e., without; pristis, from pristes (Gr.), sawyer (but here meaning saw); oura (Gr.), tail, referring to absence of saw-toothed crest of enlarged dermal denticles along upper edge of caudal fin as found in the closely related Pristiurus (=Galeus) (See ETYFish); investigatoris: -is, Latin genitive singular of: HMS Investigator station in Andaman Sea, where holotype was collected (See ETYFish).
Eponymy: Named after the Royal Indian Marine Survey vessel Investigator, which made collections of marine fauna in the period 1884–1926. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Eastern Indian Ocean: known only from the type locality, the Andaman Sea. Reported from India (Ref. 45255).

Known only from the holotype. Maximum length presumably comes from an immature specimen. Oviparous (Ref. 50449). Not utilized at present.
