Marine; demersal; non-migratory; depth range 20 - 50 m (Ref. 6205). Tropical; 29°N - 29°S, 80°E - 157°E (Ref. 6205)
Indo-West Pacific: India to the Gulf of Thailand, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia from Shark Bay around the northern coast to Adolphus Passage, Queensland. Possibly more widely distributed than indicated.

Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 17; Vertebrae: 33. Swim bladder with a short median anterior extension and about five small pointed anterolateral projections. No black spot on pectoral fin base; no wide distinct silvery lateral band; peritoneum is black-brown.
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: circular.
Benthic species (Ref. 75154) which occurs in inshore coastal waters (Ref. 6205). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
