Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9 - 11; Anal soft rays: 9 - 11. This species is distinguished by the following characters: body height 62.5-75.5% SL; less developed bone plaques, in the specimens > 4.7 cm SL, these are located only in the anterior part of the body and spread to the caudal part and the head; flatter shape of plaques; lower end subopercle is separated by a certain distance from the posterior end of interopercle; neural arches of the first vertebra enclosed in the occipital region of the neurocranium, visibly go out beyond the occipital region posteriorly and dorsally (Ref. 130656).
