This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D XIII,6; pectoral-fin rays 12; pelvic-fin I,5; gill rakers 0 + 4-5; no suborbital pit; preopercular spines/skin flaps 5 (upper 3 spines relatively well developed; lower 2 rudimentary, covered with thick skin flaps) (Ref. 124583).
Cross section: oval.
The two specimens were collected by hand net (using SCUBA) from sandy bottoms with gorgonians and true corals (Ref. 124583).
