Dorsal soft rays (total): 24 - 26; Anal soft rays: 15 - 16; Vertebrae: 31. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: D 24-26; A15-16; vertebrae 31; no palatine teeth; it differs from all congeners, except P. andriashevi and P. pietschi, by having a laterally flattened, bladelike ventral procurrent caudal rays, and an anteriorly directed hook-like process on the third posteriormost ventral procurrent caudal ray (Ref. 94277).
