Marine; demersal. Subtropical; 30°N - 8°N, 49°E - 77°E
Western Indian Ocean: easterrn and northern coasts of Arabian Sea, west coast of India and Pakistan, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 9; Vertebrae: 24. This species is distinguished by the following characters: hind tip of maxilla exposed when mouth is closed; head relatively large, slightly convex, the head length 27-31% of SL; adipose eyelid developed anteriorly and posteriorly; mid-dorsal line is sharply keeled; stomach gizzard-like, unbranched pyloric caeca five; transverse scales 11-13 (mode 12) row; scales in lateral series usually 34-38; pectoral-fin rays usually 16; pectoral-fin length 20-26% of SL, just reaching to level of first dorsal-fin; supraneurals 3: the first between second and third vertebrae, the second between fourth and fifth vertebrae, and the third between sixth and seventh vertebrae; first pterygiophore of spinous dorsal fin is between seventh and eighth vertebrae (Ref. 137907).
