Definition of Term

monophyletic
(English) Refers to a group of species that all have a single common ancestral species. A monophyletic taxon includes all descendants from the common ancestor of its members. A "monophyletic group" usually refers to a clade, i.e. an organism and all of its descendants. (See also: taxonomy, phylogeny)
