Definition of Term

phylogeny
(English) The evolutionary development of an organism or group of organisms in time, as distinguished from ontogeny, which is the development of an individual from fertilization of the egg until adulthood. (See also: ontogeny, natural selection)
phylogénie
(French) Développement évolutif d'un organisme ou groupe d'organismes dans le temps, par opposition à l'ontogénie, qui est le développement d'un individu depuis la fécondation de l'oeuf jusqu'à l'âge adulte. (See also: ontogeny, natural selection)
filogenia
(Portuguese) Desenvolvimento evolutivo dum organismo ou grupo de organismos no tempo;distingue-se da ontogenia que trata da evolução dum organismo ou grupo de organismos desde a fertilização do óvulo até à idade adulta. (See also: ontogeny, natural selection)
