Upon comparing, the holotypes of <i>Apristurus herklotsi</i> and this species are conspecific, thus, suggesting that <i>Pentanchus</i> is a senior synonym of <i>Apristurus</i>. But due to lack of verifiable specimens, <i>herklotsi</i> is tentatively retained in <i>Apristurus</i>.
