This species is distinguished by the following characters: pectoral rays 14; D2 with 9 segmented rays; premaxillary teeth 34-40; no scales on head and nape; head and jaw are long; typical colouration of males bright red, mottled with a blue pattern on the back (Ref. 100388).
This species was found in a clear, high gradient stream with rocky bottom and lives on the bottom of the river, on top of rocks. Assumed to be amphidromous (Ref. 100388).
