Etymology: Cambeva: Probably derived from the Tupi-Guarani, is a popular name for trichomycterid fishes in southern and south-eastern Brazil (Ref. 119381); imaruhy: The species epithet is an allusion to the occurrence in the Caminho dos Tropeiros da Serra do Imaruí (formerly Imaruhy); name possibly derived from the Tupi-Guarani, meaning mosquito (Ref. 129458).

কশেরুকা : 38 - 40. Distinguished from other congeners by the following set of characters: Ribs 15-17; D 11-12 (iii + II + 7-8); A 9 (ii + II + 5); P 7 (I + 6); vertebrate 38-40; posterior margin of the parurohyal lateral process concave; fewer interopercular odontodes, fewer jaw teeth; dorsal-fin origin in a vertical through the centrum of the 20th or 21st vertebra; anal-fin origin in a vertical through the centrum of the 24th or 25th vertebra. Colouration: Flank, dorsum and head side pale yellowish brown; dorsum and flank with hight concentration of small rounded dark grey spots; dark pigment concentrated between anterior nostril and orbit, and on nasal barbel base(Ref. 129458).
