Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 12; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 11 - 12. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D XIII,10-12 (rarely 10 or 12; A II,11-12 (rarely 11); pectoral-fin rays 15; gill rakers on first branchial arch 9-10 + 19-22 (usually 10 + 20-22), total gill rakers 29-32; tubed lateral-line scales 12-16 (usually 13-14); preorbital+suborbital scales 0-14 (mean 5.5, rarely 0). Colouration: small juveniles in life are mainly light blue, gradually becoming pale greenish with increased growth; adults have a greenish yellow and covered with small turquoise spots, extending onto head and base of median fins (Ref. 106687).
