Etymology: Coelorinchus: Greek, koilos = a hollow + Greek, rhyngchos = jaw (Ref. 45335); ganymedes: Named for Ganymede, a young man in Greek mythology who was taken to Olympus for his beauty, and served as the cupbearer of the gods; referring to the graceful appearance and elegant color of the new species.

This species of C. hubbsi group is distinguished by the following characters: snout very long 1.9-2.1 times in HL), terminal snout scute long and narrow; orbital diameter equal to the postorbital length and exceeding the length of the upper jaw: 24.4-30.6, 23.1-30.6, and
15.-21.4% HL, respectively; with 3-4 parallel rows of spinules on the body scales at HL 5.0-6.0 cm and cycloid scales on the isthmus; a separate contrasting suprapectoral spot and a contrasting saddle-shaped spot behind the origin of second dorsal (Ref. 124525).
