Prefers still or slow-flowing water and dense vegetation; feeds primarily on insects, small snails and other invertebrates and occasionally small fish (Ref. 7248, 52307). Agamous, ovophilic (Ref. 52307) female mouthbrooder, breeds in summer (Ref. 7248, 52307).
