Dorsal soft rays (total): 13 - 14; Anal soft rays: 8. Capoeta shajariani differs from other congeners in Iran by following combination of characters, none of them unique: maxillary barbel not reaching to pupil; 4 unbranched and 8-9 branched dorsal-fin rays, its outer margin concave; last unbranched dorsal-fin ray moderately ossified and serrated with flexible distal, 18-26 serrae on 50-60% of its posterior margin; 16-19 gill rakers, 12-14 on lower limb; 25-27 scales around caudal peduncle; 70-77 scales on lateral line, 13-15 scales between dorsal-fin origin and lateral line and 9-11 scales between anal-fin origin and lateral line (Ref. 116759).
