Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 12; Anal soft rays: 9 - 10; Vertebrae: 36 - 38. Distinguished by having seven pectoral-fin rays. Can be further diagnosed from other species by having the following combination of characters: opercular odontodes vertically arranged; deeper metapterygoid, much deeper than wide (vs. wider than deeper in T. itatiayae); pectoral-fin filament about 40% of pectoral-fin length, head width 73.0-81.6% of head length; caudal fin subtruncate; caudal peduncle depth 9.9-11.9%; absence of two anterior pores of infraorbital series; 12-13 pleural ribs; 7 branchiostegal rays; and color pattern with horizontal row of brown blotches on the flank (Ref. 94725).
