Etymology: Eurypleuron: Greek, eurys = long + Greek, pleura = near, the side of (Ref. 45335).

Validity of species questionnable: synonym of Eurypleuron owasianum (Matsubara, 1953), or if valid, restricted to Japan (Ref. 80565).

Southern Indian and Pacific oceans: South Africa, southeastern Australia, New Zealand, and Sala y Gomez Ridge. Pending a comprehensive study of the group, all disjunct southern populations (south of 20° south latitude) are tentatively referred to E. cinereum, the only species name available for the complex.
