Two barbels on lower jaw at corner of mouth; body flaccid, naked; all fin rays unbranched; 7 branchiostegal rays.; 2 pairs of nostrils; no teeth on vomer and palatines; slit absent to rear of last gill; gill membranes fused with interbranchial space, not forming a free fold at the rear; scapula and coracoid separated; scapular foramen narrow, open to cleithrum; 2 radials in the skeleton of the pectoral fin, interradial foramina absent; postcleithrum absent; pelvic fins without spiny ray; first proximal pterygiophore of dorsal fin lacking ray; no pleural ribs, epipleurals present only on first 6 vertebrae; pleurostylar vertebra with haemal arch fused with the center and elongated neural process; urostylar vertebra fused with hypurals to form a single bony complex; 1 epural; pores absent from lateral line of trunk; postorbitals absent (Ref. 41738).
