Max length : 14.1 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 4996)
Dorsal spines (total): 16 - 18; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7 - 9; Vertebrae: 33. P. pleurotaenia is relatively small, attaining about 115 mm SL. Differs from P. kirkii, P. labridens, P. similis, P. marginatus, and P. spilonotus in the small mouth which is less than 33% of the head length. Like P. kirkii and P. labridens it has some enlarged pharyngeal teeth. Caudal fin emarginate.
