Etymology: Pseudecheneis: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, echein = to hold + Greek, nays = ship; remora, suckling fish; 1774 (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; demersal. Subtropical
Asia: Lancangjiang River (Mekong) in Yunnan Province, China.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 10.4 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 74729)
Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Anal soft rays: 10 - 11; Vertebrae: 35. Can be differentiated from all other members of the Pseudecheneis by the absence of yellow spots or patches on the body (vs. presence). Differs from all congeners except Pseudecheneis longipectoralis in having longer pectoral fin, reaching to pelvic fin base (vs. not reaching); and distinguished from Pseudecheneis longipectoralis in having a longer caudal peduncle (28.2-32.9% SL vs. 24.9-28.2). Premaxillary tooth band semicircular with 2 or 4 teeth along outer edge; body covered with dense, tubercles distributed uniformly, some longitudinal tubercles among rounded tubercles; vertebrae 35 (Ref. 74729).
