Circumpolar between Antarctic Divergence and Subtropical Convergence zone. Southeast Atlantic and Western Indian Ocean: between 41°40'-45°25'S, 17°17'-36°32'E (Ref. 4066).

High-oceanic and mesopelagic (Ref. 4066). Found between 608-728 m during the day and between 364-426 m at night (Ref. 4066). Feeds on copepods and larval stages of krill, mainly calytopis and furcilia stages. Recorded from the stomach contents of Lepidonotothen squamifrons.
