Etymology: Parosphromenus: Greek, para in the side of + Greek, osphromenos, osphrainomai = to smell (Ref. 45335); tweediei: Named for the late Michael W.F. Tweedie, whose series of ichthyological publications in the 1950s has been most helpful in furthering studies of Malayan freshwater fishes.

背棘 (总数) : 10 - 12; 背的软条 (总数) : 6 - 7; 臀棘: 10 - 12; 臀鳍软条: 9 - 13. Differs from its congeners by the unique coloration of the unpaired fins of the male, especially by the broad red band between two broad black bands and the absence of blue markings (Ref. 56232).
