Etymology: Nandus: 'Nandus' is a Bengali local name, but it lacks a proper reference; ‘nanda’ is a Bengali fish name but probably for a different species (J. Müller, pers. comm., April 2021, after information from native speakers).

Found in hill streams to peat (Ref. 57235). Recorded from small streams and flooded forest (Ref. 56749). Solitary and with its cryptic coloration, strongly resembles a piece of dead leaf (Ref. 85309). Feeds on small fishes and crustaceans (Ref. 56749).
