Body orange in upper part of eyes, grayish black or deep green on head and top of body, silver white on sides; pectoral and pelvic fins slightly yellow. Head conical and snout pointed; lower jaw slightly protruded; barbels 2 pairs; last simple ray of dorsal and anal fins spined and serrated on hind margins.
Adults mostly live in the deep parts of the lake without waterweeds. Feed mainly on plankton. Spawning period is in April and May (Ref. 45563).
