Marine; bathypelagic; oceanodromous (Ref. 51243); depth range ? - 1537 m (Ref. 27311). Deep-water; 41°N - 52°S, 105°E - 14°E
Eastern Atlantic: Senegal to the Angola Current. Western Atlantic: 17°N to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico. Indian Ocean: between 7°N and 4°S, east of 70°E. Pacific Ocean: in tropical waters; reported from New Zealand (Ref. 5755). South China Sea (Ref.74511).

Mesopelagic (Ref. 58302). High-oceanic, found between 300-700 m during the day and between 40-325 m at night with maximum abundance at 100 m. Sexually mature from about 12.3-13.8 cm (near Hawaii) (Ref. 4479). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 31442).
