This species is distinguished by the following characters: body robust and with fleshy papillae on the head and sensory pits on the ventral surface of head and body; with conspicuous patch of melanophores around the anus; preanal length 24.4-28.0 %TL; pre-anal lateral-line pores 19-24, 2 mandibular pores; vertebrae 125-135; posterior dorsal-fin origin over tip of pectoral fin (Ref. 129313).
Four adult females of the 28 specimens taken from northeastern and southwestern Taiwan were with mature ovary and eggs at small body size (180–221 mm) (Ref. 129313).
