Diagnosed from other species of the genus Tatia by the following features: males with distinctive modified anal fin, with elongate rays, with no denticulations on ray segments; cranial fontanel wide, with a single opening; infraorbital 1 with pronounced ventral process, almost reaching the antero-ventral border of eye rim; nasal ossified as tubes, with no medial flanges of bone and not sutured to mesethmoid; five branched pectoral-fin rays; and snout deep,
depth more than 46.7% HL. Can be further distinguished by having caudal fin lobes with about the same length in both adult females and males; post-Weberian vertebrae 32; and a smaller adult size, less than 5.0 cm SL (Ref. 79512).
Attains sexual maturity at 2.93 cm SL (Ref. 79512).
