Spine dorsali (totale) : 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 60 - 74; Spine anali: 0; Raggi anali molli: 21 - 29. Dorsal fin 2.4-3.4x length of anal; dorsal origin well before pectorals; 10-15 scales on caudal peduncle; body height 4.1-6.1x SL; caudal peduncle 2.5-4.1x long than high.

Affinities: Mormyrus rume and Mormyrus subundulatus, Mormyrus tapirus with longer snout, longer anal fin and 10-15 scales on caudal peduncle.
