Very territorial. Also shows a hierarchical social structure (Ref. 35237). Occurs in stagnant waters where the current is slow and the substrate is thickly covered with dead leaves. Adults inhabit slow streams while most juveniles are found in scattered pools (Ref. 35237). Sympatric with other Rivulus spp. (Ref. 27188). Not a seasonal killifish. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139). Hundreds of eggs, measuring 2.8 mm, are released during spawning and are subject to 3 months of diapause stage if required by local conditions. Hatching occurs after 2 to 3 weeks (Ref. 35237).
