Etymology: Lythrypnus: Greek, lythros, -on = blood + Greek, hypnos = sleep (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Marine; reef-associated; depth range 1 - 20 m (Ref. 11482). Tropical
Eastern Pacific: Cocos Island and the Galapagos Islands.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 3.4 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 11482)
Prefers rocky substrata where it may be observed "perched" on a rock or cliff face, or protruding from a crevice. Does not form large aggregations. Preys upon various benthic invertebrates but will "grab" small planktonic organisms that continually drift in the current and surge (Ref. 28023).
